Coach’s Corner: Houston County Bears in midst of most successful three year period

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Houston County Bears were 11-2 last season, but lost to Allatoona in the state 5A quarterfinals.

Before losing out, the Bears grabbed post-season wins against South Effingham and Mays.

In coach Von Lassiter’s first three seasons, the team has gone 28-9 and is the most successful three year period in school history.

They will play in a new region, 1-6A, alongside Coffee, Lee County, Northside, and Valdosta.

This is Lassiter’s fourth season as head coach.


The Bears’ offense was a juggernaut, unleashing 40 points-per-game upon opponents.

The offense will be led again by quarterback Jake Fromm.

The Bears will be returning RB Mack McCullough, wide receivers Eli Watson, Amari Colbert, Andrew Brown, and offensive linemen Kordarius Melton, Trey Hill, and Tucker Coody.


The Bears allowed 16.5 points-per-game last season, and will have five starters returning.

FIRST GAME: Thursday, August 18th vs. Mary Persons.
