Coach’s Corner: Covenant Rams ready to defend title

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Covenant Rams begin the 2016 season as the reigning AA state champions of the GICAA after having gone a perfect 13-0 in the season prior.

Head coach Chris Oxford is in his third season as coach of the Rams.

Last year’s offense scored 42 points-per-game behind rushers Khristian Tate and Leon Simmons. Tate has moved on, while Simmons is a senior this year.

Michael Alston ran for 92 yards in the championship game. He is also a senior this year.

Quarterback Cody Farr is returning. He completed 36 of 54 passes in 2015, but will be throwing more this season.

There will be a lack of depth on the offensive line.

There will be four returning starters from 2015, two of them linebackers.

The Rams will need an entirely new line of scrimmage.

FIRST GAME: August 14th at King’s Academy.

FIRST HOME GAME: September 2nd versus Sherwood Christian Academy.
