City of Fort Valley gears up for 2nd Annual Cobbler Drop
FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The new year is approaching and the city of Fort Valley is getting ready for its annual celebration.
Tina Harbuck and other members of the Peach Activity Committee (PAC) are gearing up for the 2nd Annual Cobbler Drop to ring in the new year.
Fort Valley is known for the world’s largest peach cobbler. This gave organizers an idea on what to call the annual event.
Harbuck says, “Some of the people don’t want to travel to Atlanta to see the peach drop or go to Macon and so we decided to start a new years eve event here in Fort Valley.”
This is the second year the Peach Activity Committee hosted the Cobbler Drop.
At midnight on New Year’s Eve, a 10 by 10 illuminated peach cobbler will be lit up and dropped at the corner of East Main Street.
The free event will include lots of entertainment for adults and kids.
Latonia Ages is the president of the Peach Activity Committee. She says, “We have kids music, country music, soul music, R&B music, whatever your taste is, it’s going to be offered downtown Fort Valley.”
Javier Rodriquez is the owner of Tapatio. He will be open until 10pm selling margaritas. Rodriquez says he loves helping out and he’s all in for building relationships with the community.
Rodriquez adds, “All the money that we will be making on the margaritas will be back for the community for the PAC Committee so whatever we make off of this well it’s a non-profit organization so we’re trying to put the money back in the community.”
All streets in downtown Fort Valley will be blocked off during the event. The event kicks off at 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
