CHW raising gynecological and prostate cancer awareness

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – This month, Community Health Works is raising awareness about gynecological and prostate cancer. Katie Smoak from CHW stopped by Daybreak to tell us more.

Smoak says the most common type of gynecological cancers are ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancer. She adds cervical cancer is highly preventable with screenings and HPV vaccines.

Smoak says getting your yearly pap smear is important and a test for HPV is also recommended.

The HPV shot is recommended for males and females ages 9 to 26 and preferably before you are sexually active.

Smoak says one out of every seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. There are screenings available to detect prostate cancer.

Always talk to your doctor about what tests, vaccines, and other treatments are right for your.
