Are your children’s vaccinations updated?
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As your children go back to school, it’s important to have their shots updated.
It’s National Immunization Awareness Month and Beverlyn Ming, Macon-Bibb Health Department, said your children need vaccinations to stay healthy.
“They could get sick and then it could cause other children to get sick as well, so we would like to see all of the kids immunized,” Ming said.
Daivd Gowan, Director of Safety and Security for Bibb County Schools, wants parents to know that failure to get your child their shots, means no school.
“We cannot enroll them in public school as any other public school district. We have to have the vaccinations records,” Gowan said.
But there is one exception to this vaccine rule in Georgia.
“There is a religious exemption, but you have to fill out a form for that, but other than that, the student has to have their immunization records correct,” he said.
You can find the list of required shots on the North Central Health District’s website.
If your child needs their shots soon, the Health Department’s doors are always open.
“We encourage them to come to the local health department, but if they cannot come to the health department they can always go to their providers,” Ming said.
Just be sure to get your child there soon, so they don’t miss out on valuable lessons in the classroom .
Ming also said parents should make appointments soon for flu shots. She said adults and children need them.
