Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health gives patients a treat
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Monsters, superheros, and different characters roamed the halls of the Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health.
Since kids were not able to go trick-or-treating because of their conditions, the hospital brought the fun to them. Patients were able to trick-or-treat throughout different departments and collect a lot of candy.
Doctors, nurses and volunteers joined in the fun. Registered Nurse and volunteer, Rena Pearson-Shaver has been volunteering for four years and loves seeing the kids’ faces.
“They have so much fun, their faces just light up and it takes it a special day rather than just being in the hospital, instead of just another days of being here,” Pearson-Shaver said. “They get to see the staff having fun with them, instead of just being somebody that’s just trying to take care of them.”
They decorated hospital floors and departments with festive decor. Members from the community volunteered to dress up and give out candy.
Parents, like Latricia Philpot, are glad to see their kids happy after going through a lot.
“He’s happy, he’s never been through this much excitement and I appreciate them doing this much,” Philpot said.
For one day out of the year, patients weren’t patients. They got to be whoever they wanted to be.
