Centerville woman to serve jail time for running over her son

CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Centerville woman will serve nine years in prison for nearly killing her son in May of 2013.

Arkebia Renarda Albury, 26, faced Houston County Superior Court Judge George F. Nunn Jr. Monday.

Albury initially avoided being caught by mall security for shoplifting and ran away from the Centerville Mall with her son, who was four years old at the time.

As she climbed into the car, she believed her son followed her, but he did not.

Albury ran her son over, fracturing his skull in multiple places and injuring his liver.

She grabbed her son, put him in the car, and drove away from the mall.

She pulled over a few miles away, where police found her and took the child to the hospital.

She is charged with one count of Serious Injury by Vehicle and one count of Failure to Stop and Return to the Scene of an Accident.

“The fact that Ms. Albury would take her children with her to commit a crime is not only senseless, it is selfish,” said Assistant District Attorney Greg Winters said. “As a result of her actions, her son was seriously injured, almost losing his life. She is going to prison because she placed her wants and desires over the best interest of her children.”
