CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Deputies searching for a man bashing downtown Macon store front windows
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/ WMGT)- Surveillance video shows a man bashing downtown Macon storefront windows. Some businesses have more damage than others.
Four downtown businesses have damage done to their windows and doors. This coming after a man early Sunday morning picked up a bench outside Just Tap’d and started hitting businesses nearby. Bibb County Sheriff Detective Jean Lebeuf says the vandalism for Just Tap’d, the ballroom next door and Pink Confetti happened around 2:30 in the morning.
Then, an hour later, El Camino off of Second Street and Mulberry, had its door window broken. Lebeuf believes the same person damaged the businesses. Just Tap’d Director of Marketing, Kaitlynn Kressin says the doorknob is bent, but the owners do not plan to press charges.
“There’s crime in every city, no matter where you go, and you’re always going to have to deal with stuff like this. As long as the merchants do what they’re supposed to and work really closely with the police to provide camera footage and everything that they’re supposed to do, I think between the police officers, that do a really great job, and the merchants around downtown we’ll be able to catch him,” Kressin said.
Lebeuf says Pink Confetti and El Camino will be pressing charges. He also says they have an idea of who the suspect is, and are working to arrest him.
Also, according to reports from the sheriff’s office, witnesses say the suspect was heard yelling racial slurs.
