MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Cashman’s Pub has claimed the Super Spud Trophy for the second time, taking the most votes during last week’s Downtown Macon French Fry Fight.

Cashman’s also won the competition in 2022.

In a news release, NewTown Macon said the competition, which was designed to boost downtown foot traffic and sales, featured 20 restaurants showcasing unique fry specials.

“We enjoyed participating in this year’s French Fry Fight,” Cashman’s Pub Executive Chef Reginald Perkins said. “We tried to do something our staff would have fun with. It’s fun for people in Macon to try the different specials and see how creative and competitive all the restaurants can be. We plan to participate next year and all the years NewTown Macon hosts this event.”

Cashman’s winning dish, the Asian Sesame Fries, included Asian braised short rib, Japanese barbecue sauce, scallions, and sesame seeds with a side of yum yum sauce. The Rookery took second place with its Rook Burger Battered Fries and Loom at Hotel Forty Five took third with its Sweet & Salty fry special.

Several restaurants sold out of their special fry dishes before closing, reporting record sales as a result of the event. This marked the third annual French Fry Fight, which was developed by NewTown’s Main Street Macon board to drive more foot traffic downtown during the slower summer season.
