Canada-based company brings hundreds of jobs to Macon-Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hundreds of jobs are coming to middle Georgia thanks to a Canada based company.

Irving Consumer Products broke ground at the Sofkee Industrial Park Thursday morning. The tissue production plant is investing 400 million dollars in the Macon-Bibb County area, creating 200 jobs.

This opens up opportunities for long term employment which means more money in our wallets.

Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert says, “The jobs here are going to be high quality jobs and high paying jobs. So, people can start looking now about what it takes to be employed by Irving tissue company.”

Construction is expected to be completed in 18 months. The plant should be up and running in early 2019. Macon-Bibb is the first in the southeast to have an Irving Consumer Products facility.
