Business owners in Macon prepare for tax free weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s almost back to school for thousands of students around Middle Georgia, and parents looking to save money are taking advantage of the state’s tax free holiday.

“It’s the best of everything here,” Edward Vogel, the co-owner of the Georgia School Supply store, said.

He says his store has everything: pencils, notepads, paper — all stocked ahead of the tax free holiday. The weekend knocks off sales tax on certain priced items.

“We might be the largest, more stocked, than any other store in the state,” Vogel said.

His store is one of many across the state preparing for the big numbers set to shop in stores for the holiday.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come out and get a machine for a reduced cost before school so that the kids have the tools that they need for school,” Brad Spiegel, the owner of the Quality Computer Systems in Macon, said.

Spiegel says he’s expecting ten times the people in his store.

“All of this would be eligible. As long as the purchase is less than $1000 then it’s eligible to be tax free,” referring to several computers in the store.

From computers, to speakers, to laptop bags — it’s lower prices for customers.

“We definitely have laptops and desktops on sale, new and refurbished,” he said.

It’s a chance for everyone to get the things they need before school begins again .

“It’s going to be decor for teachers to put up in the room. They’ve got to have something instead of bare walls, so they’ve got to put something up there,” Vogel said.

Both owners say they’ll have regular store hours, but extra hands on deck to keep up with the demand.
