Budget Cuts Threaten Workforce Services
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution which would eliminate all federal funding for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
The Macon-Bibb County Office of Workforce Development (MOWD) is part of the WIA, a program which trains unemployed, and under-employed people to find new work.
The MOWD would lose its funding to help train those people if this bill goes into effect.
The program also assists people by using the federal money to pay for books and tuition if they need to go back to school for a new career.
If the bill is enacted, the legislation would eliminate more than $3 billion nation-wide for the WIA.
