BSO: Vehicle fire causes traffic delays on I-16 in Macon

A vehicle fire on I-16 W at SR 87/US 80/MLK Jr. Blvd. Wednesday night caused traffic disruptions, but the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says no injuries were reported.

UPDATE (11:43 p.m.) – GDOT’s last update on 511ga.org at 11:37 showed an anticipated event end time of 11:45 p.m.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  A vehicle fire on I-16 at SR 87/US 80/MLK Jr. Blvd. Wednesday night caused traffic disruptions, but the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says no injuries were reported.

“One lane is blocked on I-16 EB and two lanes are blocked on I-16 WB,” Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs wrote in response to an email inquiry. “Champs (Coordinated Highway Assistance and Maintenance Program) has been notified.”

A 9:50 p.m. 511ga.org update showed a crash happened in the same area just after 7 p.m., leading to lane closures. As of 10 p.m., the anticipated event end time was 11 p.m.
