BS Report: Hawks Need To Step Up For Game 6 – At Least The Braves Are Good
Well, there’s some good and bad here on this edition of the BS Report. Let’s start with the bad and get that out of the way. The Atlanta Hawks. Oh, man, what a horrible performance last night here on 41 NBC. Just awful showing against the New York Knicks in Game five of that series. They lost by 29 points and really weren’t even that close.
You want to be honest about it. Hawks just have not play well in these last two games. It’s not over yet. They go back to Atlanta for game six on Thursday, so we’ll see what happens. But there’s no question that game on Tuesday night was really, really bad. And look you hate to point the finger at one person.
Last point the finger at two people. Jaylen Johnson and the Nickeil Alexander-Walker had pure and simply not played as well in the postseason as they did in the regular season. And that’s a problem when you have the playoffs in the postseason, you’ve got to have your big guys, your dudes. They got to play great. They can’t just play good and be okay.
They got to play great. If you’re going to win a series against a good team like the Knicks and Jalen Johnson. It’s not that he’s played poorly. It’s just not good enough. His point per game averaging in the playoff series against New York 19.2. It was 22.5 in the regular season. His rebounds are down. His assist are down.
And that’s a problem. His shooting has been poor. He’s shot 26.9% from three point territory. He was one for five on Tuesday night. That’s a problem. Nickeil Alexander-Walker averaged 20.8 points per game in the regular season. But in this series in New York, 14.2 points per game. That’s just not good enough. And again, you have to have your big players come through for you in the postseason.
And those two main guys for Atlanta have not C.J. McCollum who was great of course in game three last Thursday in Atlanta last. Well he had only six points on Tuesday night. And that’s a problem too. So the Hawks again will have one more shot. They’re down three two in the series. They’ll play game six on Thursday from Atlanta.
And we’ll see how they do in that game. Now the Braves. That’s the good news. They won again on Tuesday night 5 to 2 over Detroit. Decent pitching performance from our team Perez five innings. And he continues to do well. And really in that fifth spot in the starting rotation. They got a big hit from Drake ball and a big hit from Matt Olson.
And a two run home run from Ozzie Albies. And that was all that the Braves needed. They continue to be in first place. A seven game lead on the Marlins, eight games up on the nationals and ten and a half up on Philadelphia and New York. The Phillies and the Mets both won on Tuesday night, but so did the Braves.
And that shows you right there. The whole the Phillies and the Mets have dug themselves to be ten and a half back in the National League East ten games, the last column even on the next, the last day in April. Tonight, the Braves will have game two of their series with Detroit. What a pitching matchup this will be.
Tarik Skubal will be on the mound for Detroit. And he’s one of the best pitchers in the game. No question about that. He’s been outstanding so far three and two with a 2.72 earned run average. And another guy from the Pacific Northwest. J.R Richie will make his home debut for Atlanta. He of course made his big league debut last Thursday in Washington.
Did very well. And tonight J.R. Richie, a great young right handed pitcher. Takes on Tarik Skubal, one of the best pitchers in the game. Game time will be at 7:15.
