Two inmates escape, kill two officers in Putnam County

EATONTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose have been identified as the two inmates who killed two correctional officers Tuesday morning. According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:45 a.m. the inmates overpowered the officers and took their guns. One of the suspects shot and killed both officers. Then, they stole a car and went west towards Eatonton. Suspects are armed with the officers’ .40 caliber Glock pistols.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teresa Slade says law enforcement officers are searching for the two men. Slade adds a witness saw the men escape in a dark green Honda.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said, “An attack on any American law enforcement officer is an attack on every American law enforcement officer and the principles we all believe in.” Authorities in Georgia have said two inmates killed two guards and then fled in a “grass green,” four-door Honda Civic. The inmates have been identified as 43-year-old Donnie Russell Rowe and 24-year-old Ricky Dubose. Rosenstein said federal resources are being committed to help catch the fugitives.
