FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fort Valley State University has named Brandon Britt as the new head coach of its men’s basketball team, the university’s athletics department announced Friday.

Britt joins FVSU from Edward Waters University, where he served as assistant men’s basketball coach and co-recruiting coordinator.

According to a news release from FVSU Athletics, Britt led the elite camps at EWU and designed a training program that improved both the athletic performance and technical skills of his players.

His recruiting efforts helped EWU reach major milestones, including its first NCAA Division II winning season, its first wins over Sunshine State Conference teams, and a team GPA of 3.4.

“Coach Britt’s reputation for building winning programs, while staying deeply committed to the academic and personal growth of his players, aligns perfectly with our vision at Fort Valley State,” Director of Athletics Daphnie Johnson said. “We are excited for the energy, discipline and leadership he will bring to Wildcat Nation.”

Before his time at EWU, Britt coached the boys’ basketball team at Western Kentucky High School from 2018 to 2023. He took over a team that had finished 4-22 the previous season and turned it into a contender with an 83-56 overall record. Under Britt’s leadership, the team reached the regional tournament for the first time in ten years, set a school record with 23 wins in one season and climbed to No. 2 in the state rankings in 2022.

FVSU says Britt also led a 14U boys AAU team to a 58-4 record in 2019, securing the top ranking in Kentucky. He started his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Indiana University Southeast, where the program won a conference title and made an NAIA national tournament appearance. He helped mentor four NAIA All-Americans during his time there.

Britt earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Indiana University Southeast in 2015 and later earned a master’s degree in teaching from the University of the Cumberlands.
