Bomb scare at Macon school unsettles students and school officials
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Detectives at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office are trying to figure who called in a bomb threat to Cirrus Academy Charter School. The charter school sits off of Pio Nono Avenue near Mercer University Drive. Corporal Linda Howard says someone called the school around 10:00 Tuesday morning claiming there was a bomb at the school.
Moving quickly, school officials got more than 500 students out of the building. Students spent about 45 minutes waiting outside while deputies searched their building.
After deputies determined the school was safe, students returned back to their rooms and back to their regular routine. One student told 41NBC she did not know about the bomb scare. She says students have had plenty emergency drills and thought today was just another one.
Detectives say they feel confident they will be able to find the person who made the bomb threat call.
