Body found in Rockland apartment in East Macon, manhunt on for killer

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County sheriff’s deputies are searching for the person or persons responsible for gunning down a man after he answered his front door.

Neighbors found 40-year-old Milton Stephens, dead inside his unit, K-2, at the Rockmart apartment complex on Recreation road, Monday.

Bibb county coroner, Leon Jones says Stephens was shot in his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:10 a.m.

Family friend, Cynthia Hartfield, says she doesn’t know why anyone would want to harm him.

“Usually, he comes out in the mornings and he sits with the neighbors,” said Hartfield. “The neighbor upstairs said she noticed, that he did not come out this morning, and when they went to see, or inquire as to what was happening or was he coming out to sit on the stoop, they found him shot.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s office in DeKalb county.
