Bobcat volleyball poised for second season success

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GC ATHLETICS RELEASE) – The Georgia College volleyball team and head coach Gretchen Krumdieck will open their second season this Friday, Sept. 5 at the Falcon Classic in Misenheimer, N.C. The Bobcats will be returning from an action-packed inaugural season.

“The bobcats are ready to be back on the court,” said Krumdieck. “Everyone prepared well in the off-season and it has shown in practices. Our schedule is set up well for us to be successful. I have never seen a group more ready to start the season.”

The highlight of the 2013 season was the first volleyball match in school history. Over 2,500 people came out to the Centennial Center to watch Georgia College knock off Fort Valley State University in three sets. The Bobcats had over three times as many kills as the Wildcats on the way to the first win in school volleyball history.

The Bobcats will return 11 players from last year’s squad and will have the first senior in school history in the form of Lauren Johnston (Acworth, Ga.). The leading returner in kills will be Caroline Long (Roswell, Ga.), while Micayla Patterson (Peachtree City, Ga.) will be returning after leading the Bobcats with 945 assists a year ago. Returners Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) and Ashley Savransky (Roswell, Ga.) led the team in digs and blocks in 2013 with 450 and 62, respectively.

Georgia College will play their first two games of the 2014 season Friday, Sept. 5 against Shepherd University and Slippery Rock University at 3 and 7 p.m. The Bobcats’ home opener will take place Sept. 19 against Flagler College at 7 p.m.
