Bitter cold anticipated overnight

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Temperatures will plummet into the teens with some single digit wind chills possible.
This Evening
While the sunshine returned to start the new week it has been anything but warm outside. Winds have been gusting anywhere from 25-40 mph with sustained speeds ranging from 15-25 mph. These winds will slow some tonight however the gusts may still reach as high as 20 mph. Skies will remain clear. Wind chills will likely drop below 15 degrees around the region with actual temperatures dropping below 20. Middle Georgians will need to drip their faucets to avoid plumbing issues. Bring any pets or small plants in as well!

COLD WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM THIS EVENING TO 9 AM EST TUESDAY... * WHAT...Very cold wind chills from 5 below to 5 above across much of north Georgia and 5 to 15 degrees across central Georgia. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, northeast, northwest, southeast, and west central Georgia. * WHEN...From 8 PM this evening to 9 AM EST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Very cold wind chills from 5 below to 5 above zero in north Georgia and 5 to 15 above in central Georgia are expected. Avoid prolonged exposure if possible and have a safe heating source, particularly for those who may still be experiencing power outages. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
Tomorrow
Another sunny and chilly day is likely Tuesday however it shouldn’t be nearly as bitter as Monday. The wind will flow from the west-northwest around 5-12 mph with gusts ranging from 15-20 mph. Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 40s.
Overnight will see cloud cover make a return from the west. Temperatures will still be quite bitter with lows expected to drop to just above 20 degrees. Again Middle Georgians will need to drip the faucets and bring in pets and plants. The wind will be light out of the west.
Wednesday and Beyond
Wednesday will begin on a cloudy note however some clearing is likely during the afternoon hours. Temperatures should reach 50 degrees or so as the wind begins to shift back towards the northwest again. Lows all week long will be below freezing and for most nights below 25 degrees, so Middle Georgians should get used to dripping the faucets overnight. The bitter cold will carry into the coming weekend. Depending on the track of the next system some snow could be possible.
