Bibb students release butterflies in honor of 9/11

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Many of us remember the tragedy that happened on this day 13 years ago, but what about those who weren’t around?

Students at Vineville Academy of the Arts released about 40 butterflies on Thursday in honor of 9/11. Principal Kristy Graham says much like what this country did after that horrific day, these butterflies teach the kids about freedom, unity, and rebirth.

We wanted to teach them, of course, how our country came together and they united and had a rebirth of our country and one another and how we united together during that time of tragedy,” Graham said.

The students will study the butterflies throughout the school year.
