Bibb Sheriff’s deputies investigating officer-involved shooting
According to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, deputies were called to Fort Hawkins Liquor Store to break up loitering.
One of the members of the group, 20-year-old Kenyae Brown, gave deputies his brother Kendra’s name when asked. Davis tells 41NBC there are warrants out for Kendra including aggravated assault and participation in gang activity.
When deputies realized there were warrants out for Kendra Brown, they tried to arrest Kenyae, who resisted. Deputies then used tasers on Kenyae, and eventually chased him into the woods where one deputy shot him in the arm.
“They were doing their job. They were trying to effect an arrest and an altercation happened and then gun play got involved in it. So, we’ll let the GBI look and see all the facets of the incident and see if anything happened that we shouldn’t have done or if everything happened like it should have,” said Davis.
Kenyae was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia with non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be charged with giving false information.
Sheriff Davis says the deputy who shot Kenyae is on administrative pending the results of the investigation.
