Bibb Sheriff ‘disappointed’ with increase of homicides in Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Sheriff David Davis says the shootings on Halloween are not related.

A night that was supposed to be filled with make believe horror, quickly into a reality.

“It’s very concerning to me as a Sheriff and its concerning to me as a member of this community that this community has that level of violence,” said Sheriff Davis.

Five people were shot Tuesday night, three of those died.

“Each one of them is related in that they all had violence and gunfire in each incident but there’s no correlation between either one of them,” said Sheriff Davis.

Just after 4:00 PM, Bibb deputies found the body of Jontavious Towns, 30. Towns went missing over the weekend. According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, he was shot and killed.

A few hours later, just before 9:00 PM, an argument on Burton Avenue, resulted in a shooting. It left Stewart Gordon, 38, dead. Bibb Deputies arrested Jace Jenkins, 21, charged him with murder.

Just minutes after that, there was another shooting on Dennis Street. Jackie Rouse, 38, was shot and killed and Quincey Emory, 31, was transported to Navicent Health with injuries.

An hour later, at Rutland Place Apartments, Kibwe Troupe, 22, was shot just outside of his apartment.

“It seems that the pattern with the ones that we had last night,” said Sheriff Davis. “With the exceptions of Mr. Towns, because we don’t know what happened, but the others just seemed to have been a spur of the moment, violent disagreement.”

Sheriff Davis says they do the best they can to prevent these tragedies from happening, but can’t be everywhere at once.

“All the investigators come into the game to help solve these cases but it takes some cooperation from the community because we know there are people out there who know the reason that these crimes happen,” said Sheriff Davis.

Out of the 25 homicides, 9 are still unsolved. Investigators have leads in most, they just need the smallest tips to make arrests.
