Florida man on the run after high speed chase in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a Florida man who led deputies on a high speed chase.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Dewey W. Moore, led deputies on a chase down I-75 near Forsyth. Bibb County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad Wolfe says Moore drove on and off exits until he abandoned his car near Monroe Street in Macon.

Moore and another suspect, Adam Wiles, were in the car. Both ran away, but Wiles was caught and arrested.

Several schools in Bibb County were on lock down while Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies chased the suspects through the area.

Stephanie Hartley from the Bibb County School District said Macon Charter Academy, L.H. Williams Elementary School and Alexander II Magnet School were on preventive lock down.

Vineville Academy, Miller Middle School and Central High School were put on preventive lock down around 2:30 p.m.

Mount De Sales Academy was also on lock down.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office contacted Bibb Schools Campus Police around 1:15 p.m. to notify the department of the chase.

Helicopters are assisting in the search.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Moore has arrest warrants from US Marshal out of Florida. Warrants are pending for two other people involved in the case.
