Bibb School Board Talks Expanding Promise Center Opportunities, Five Year Facility Plan at Called Meeting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County’s Board of Education is deciding on what to do with the Macon Promise Center.

Monday night, the school board held a called meeting where they met with officials from Central Georgia Technical College to talk about expanding joint enrollment opportunities for high school aged kids and also tour the renovated facility.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Steve Smith says the school board is paying more than $500,000 to rent half of the building, and the building could serve as adequate space for the vocational programs that are currently offered at the Hutchings Career Center.

“I envision partnering even more so with Central Georgia Technical College. Our students will be the real beneficiaries of this. I think it’s going to offer a lot more programs than we currently offer. I think the real winners here are going to be the students and their parents,” Smith said.

Another item on the school board agenda was the five year facility plan Smith is proposing that’ll consolidate various schools around the county in an effort to save money and also create efficiency.

“We’re trying to reduce the costs and also maximize state earnings that we can use along with our SPLOST dollars in order to build these schools at the least expensive cost,” Smith said.

The board of education will be focus on the five year plan and also their policies on their next scheduled meeting on December 19.
