Bibb County’s high school valedictorians and salutatorians honored at luncheon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School District held a luncheon this afternoon at the Sports Hall of Fame to celebrate some very special students.

Every high school’s valedictorian and salutatorian in the district sat with school superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones, as each student was honored for their academic achievements one last time before collecting their diplomas.

“[The students] talked about the challenges in their life experiences,” said Dr. Jones. “So it was very satisfying to hear these young people talk about how successful they’ve been in our school system and to actually thank our teachers for the work that they’ve put into them.”

Dr. Jones also opened up the floor for the students to voice their opinions on ways the school system can improve their learning methods going forward.

Tia Jackson, the salutatorian from Southwest High School, was thankful of her school for helping put her toward a path of success, “The teachers, the friends that I’ve learned things from, the principals… everybody that’s been there for me to help me learn what I needed to learn.”

“I was very excited and I felt very honored,” said Howard High School salutatorian Madison Judd, who plans to attend Mercer University in the fall. “It felt really amazing to be selected and to achieve that honor among the great group of people I’m around every single day.”
