MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is offering a free defensive driving class for teen drivers in July.

The sheriff’s office says the class is offered through its Outreach Section and is designed to help teens make safe driving decisions, avoid distractions and reduce crashes and injuries involving teen drivers.

The class is open to students ages 15 to 20. Students must have a valid driver’s license or learner’s license.

The one-day class will be held Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 774 Hazel Street.

The course includes time on driving simulators, according to the sheriff’s office.

Lunch will be provided at no cost.

The sheriff’s office says the course does not count toward Joshua’s Law requirements, but most insurance companies offer a discount for taking the course.

Registration is open until the class is full.

For more information or to register, contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Outreach Section at (478) 803-2710.
