Bibb County Sheriff’s Office swears in K9 deputies
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has added some unique deputies to the ranks.
Sheriff David Davis swore in K9 deputies Athena, Nila and Kenzo at the law enforcement center.
Athena is trained to detect bombs, while Nila and Kenzo are drug dogs.
Grant money from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Bibb County Law Enforcement Foundation paid for the dogs.
Sheriff David Davis says the dogs develop relationships with their partners, just like human deputies do.
“They fall in love with these animals and they want to make sure that they’re well cared for,” said Davis. “And they continue that even after the K9 has finished their law enforcement service and is living the retired life.”
Sheriff Davis says K9 Deputy Bojar was given to the family of deputy TJ Freeman, who lost his life while on duty last year.
