Bibb County Sheriff’s Office donates gifts

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Sheriff’s Office made a special delivery to Navicent Health Children’s Hospital. They dropped off boxes of toys for the young patients.

The toys were added to the “Holly Jolly Shoppe” the hospital has for children on the fourth floor. Patients and their families are able to visit the shop and choose from a variety of donated toys.

Deputy Michael Preston, along with the rest of his department, unpacked boxes of toys and waited for patients to go and shop.

“It brings joy to our hearts to be able to participate and to be a part of making someone happy,” Deputy Preston said.

Something he and Deputy Gail Windhom will never forget.

“Seeing the kids just come in and know they can just pick a toy in their time of’s just awesome,” Deputy Windhom said. “I love it and hopefully each year it’ll just get bigger and better.”

Walter Timley began the Christmas donations for the Navicent Health Children’s Hospital twelve years ago. He says he is thankful for the donations because the hospital means so much to him.

“The children’s hospital is right here in my heart,” Timley said. “I love the children’s hospital.”

Four year old, Larry Villa, who is recovering from Leukemia, was one of the first children to choose from the toys donated. He picked out a toy for himself and his siblings.

When asked to comment on his excitement, he simply stated, “No time for chit chat”. He was too excited to get going with his toys.

The hospital will allow children and their families to shop throughout Christmas. All of the shopping is free of charge for the patients.
