Bibb County School Teachers Attend Annual Convocation

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Thousands of Bibb County school teachers flooded the Macon Centreplex for a convocation in preparation for the 2016-2017 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones addressed the crowd before handing the mic over to keynote speaker Todd Whitaker.

Whitaker encouraged teachers to always show respect and dignity to students, something that resonated with Westside High School Principal, Julia Daniely.

“We may see a child with their pants down, but me walking in my purpose, I see a king,” Daniely said. “We may see a girl smacking her lips and rolling her eyes but I see a queen.”

After the convocation, school employees went back to their schools to put the finishing touches on their lesson plans and classrooms before school starts in a week.

“The beginning of preparation is designing lessons that touch the heart of a kid. You touch the heart of a kid then you can teach the head and direct what happens with the hand,” Westside English teacher Michael Womack said.

Both he and Daniely are re-energized now that summer break is coming to a close.

“I’m ready to teach,” Womack said.

School starts back across Bibb County August 1. For any information visit the Bibb County School District’s website at
