Bibb County School District considers rezoning changes, holds town hall for community input
District explores boundary changes as part of consolidation review and seeks public input

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Bibb County School District is looking at possible rezoning changes and is asking for community input as part of its ongoing consolidation review.
District leaders recently held a town hall to gather feedback from residents. The effort follows recommendations from the district’s 2024 to 2025 school consolidation study, which called for a closer look at rezoning and operational efficiency.
Officials say the focus right now is not on closing schools, but on redrawing attendance boundaries to better balance enrollment and make the most of existing buildings.
Deputy Superintendent Dr. Katika Lovett says redistricting is a key part of that process.
“Redistricting allows us to increase building utilization without having to actually close schools,” she said. “Rezoning is a similar process. Again it allows us to maximize the utilization of buildings which is important because that’s what helps us regenerate important resources so that we can keep our buildings open and create the wonderful learning opportunities for our students.”
District leaders say community feedback will help shape final recommendations moving forward.
