MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Board of Education approved a three-year contract renewal for Superintendent Dr. Dan A. Sims on Thursday.

According to the district’s The Board Brief newsletter, Dr. Sims, a Georgia native with a “lifelong commitment to public education,” began his tenure as Superintendent in June 2022, following the retirement of former Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones.

“I want to thank Board members for their diligence to the search process and the community for its feedback and support,” then-Board President Dr. Thelma Dillard said in 2022. “Selecting the next Superintendent to lead our District, one who will follow Dr. Curtis Jones – a National Superintendent of the Year, is not a process that was taken lightly by our Board.

Thursday’s Board Brief said Dr. Sims has shown a “deep commitment” to student and community engagement during his time in Bibb County, “all signaling that he is #Built4Bibb.”

“We are excited to recognize Dr. Sims and his accomplishments with the Bibb County School District so far,” Board President James Freeman said. “We look forward to continuing the vision embodied in our Strategic Plan, focused on student achievement. This three-year contract extension guarantees that Dr. Sims will remain with us through the five-year Strategic Plan.”
