UPDATE: Deputies identify inmate who died at Bibb County Jail
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy because the death occurred while the inmate was in custody.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate inside the Bibb County Jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation began around 6:30 p.m. Friday after corrections deputies found an inmate unresponsive inside his cell. Deputies say life-saving measures were administered until emergency medical services arrived.
Coroner Leon Jones, who said the inmate was found unconscious at 5:53 p.m, says he pronounced the inmate dead at the jail at 6:10.
The inmate has now been identified as 51-year-old Willie Edward Drake Jr. Authorities say Drake was being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on charges of criminal trespass and probation violation.
Because the death happened while Drake was in custody, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy. Internal Affairs investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards are also investigating.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says it extends its sympathies to Drake’s family and others affected by the death.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
