Bibb assessment notices mailed with new tax savings details
County officials say the notices will show fair market values, exemptions and estimated tax savings, but will not include estimated taxes

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Annual assessment notices are being mailed to Bibb County taxpayers Friday, and county officials say this year’s notices include changes under a new state law.
The Macon-Bibb County Board of Tax Assessors said in a news release Friday that the state-mandated notices will be mailed to the owner of record as of January 1, 2026.
The notices will continue to show the current fair market value as of January 1 and the prior year fair market value.
According to the Board of Tax Assessors, the notices will now include a list of exemptions and credits currently applied to the property.
The notices will also include an estimate of tax savings for those exemptions and credits based on 2025 millage rates.
The county says the annual notice will not include an estimate of taxes.
Property owners may submit an application for homestead exemption until the appeal period expires if the home was their primary residence on January 1.
The notice also reminds property owners that they are required by law to notify the Macon-Bibb County Tax Assessors Office if they become ineligible for any homestead exemption listed on the notice. Penalties can apply for not doing so.
Macon-Bibb County says it completed a market schedule update for tax year 2026, which is required to keep property values in compliance with Georgia law.
Property owners may appeal a property’s valuation by filing a written appeal within 45 days of receiving the notice. The appeal deadline will be listed on the notice.
The county says property owners are not required to take action unless they choose to appeal or apply for a homestead exemption.
