Bibb BOE supports ‘One Macon’ vision, economic plan

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Jobs, places, and schools. Those are the three things the “One Macon! Our Vision, Our Future” community and economic development strategy focuses on.

The Bibb County Board of Education fully supports it.

During a meeting Tuesday night, the board got a full presentation on that plan.

It came to be after 9 months of planning which involved several dozen community leaders, a national consulting firm, and community data and input. The goal is to make Macon prosper as a whole.

A handful of those business leaders presented it to the board Tuesday, hoping board members would agree to pledge full support, and with a unanimous vote, they did.

Board member Tom Hudson was glad the plan addresses including all of Macon-Bibb County, not just certain groups.

“Dealing with race, dealing with education, and dealing with poverty is something that is very dear. Until we deal with the underlying factors that contribute to a lot of the behaviors that we see in school, we will continue to have a problem, and I commend “One Macon” for really bringing everyone together to truly make sure that it’s an inclusive process, and not an exclusive process,” said Hudson.
