BCSO warning residents and visitors against scammers posed as “travelers”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office have a message for residents and visitors: beware of “travelers” trying to take advantage during the storm evacuations.

They’re warning people to be on the look out for scammers posing as innocent “travelers”.

Captain George Meadows says times of chaos are prime opportunities for con artists to approach both visitors and residents with scams and schemes.

“You might be approached by someone in the parking lot with their hood up and they’ll say ‘hey my car is broken down. Can I get some money from you? We’re broke, we’re from out of town.’ If you wait around for about two hours, those same people will close the hood and drive away in the same car they just told you broke down,” Meadows told 41NBC.

He says if you run into anyone suspicious, don’t hesitate to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500.
