MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The planned closure of Bass Road for bridge reconstruction has been pushed back by one week, according to an announcement Friday by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

Originally set to begin on Monday, February 17, the closure will now take effect on Monday, February 24. GDOT did not provide an explanation for the date change in its Friday afternoon announcement.

The project will shut down Bass Road (CR 742) from Rivoli Drive to Forsyth Road (U.S. 41) for 180 days while crews demolish and reconstruct the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. GDOT says residents who live within the closure zone will still have access to their homes but should know they will not be able to cross the bridge. Drivers must enter from the side of the closure where they live.

A detour will be in place directing traffic onto Rivoli Drive and Forsyth Road to bypass the closed area.
