Baldwin deputies extend offices for online transactions

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies are extending their offices for anyone looking to do business over the Internet. 

The announcement comes after an elderly Cobb County couple traveled to Telfair County, where they were going to check out a car on Craigslist and were murdered. 

Major Scott Deason says if anyone doesn’t feel comfortable or safe, the sheriff’s office’s doors are always open. 

“It’s well lit during the night. We have cameras in the parking lot. There’s always deputies and civilian personnel in and out because we’re a 24 hour, full service, sheriff’s office. And it gives them that feeling of safety because they don’t really know whom they’re dealing with,” Deason said. 

He adds if a person doesn’t want to meet at the sheriff’s office or a public place, you should consider that a red flag, and rethink doing business with that person.

The murdered couple, Elrey and June Runion were shot to death in January. Their bodies, along with their SUV, were found in a pond in Telfair County.

The lone suspect, Ronnie Adrian Towns, is charged with malice murder and armed robbery in connection to the case.
