Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies learn driving techniques

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some of us get a little nervous when a police car pulls up.  But take a minute, and put yourself in the officer’s shoes.  Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies are training to watch out for you, while trying to help others.

The deputies were placed behind the wheel of the simulator, which looks more like a video game screen. They are learning how to expect the unexpected, while responding to an emergency call.

Gail Rozier has been driving a Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputy cruiser for more than 25 years.

“It’s dealing with, ah, traffic and, answering calls,” says Rozier. “It reminds us to be safe on the roadway.”

Deputies were drilled on traffic stops, high speed chases, and what to do when a car backs up in response to being pulled over.

The Decision-Based Drivers training ends on Thursday for Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies.
