Baldwin County Student arrested for gun discharging at school

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A student at Lakeview Academy was arrested and charges were filled against the student for bringing a gun to school.

According to a news release from Byron Wellman II, the School and Community Relations Coordinator, the student brought a loaded gun to school and the gun discharged in the student’s backpack Friday morning.

No one was injured.

The student will face disciplinary consequences from the Baldwin County School Board.

The release had a statement from the Superintendent, Dr. Noris Price.

“We are currently evaluating our security measures to determine what changes we need make to our current plan. We are also working closely with the Sheriff’s Department and the Milledgeville Police Department to identify additional security measures. As a school district, we will continue to make safety and security our top priority.”

The release asks parents to educate their children that weapons are not allowed in school.

The police and school are investigating the incident.
