BALDWIN COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Lane closures have started on State Route 540/The Fall Line Freeway at the Oconee River bridge as crews start replacing the approach slab in the westbound lanes, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) East.

The scheduled work will require intermittent lane closures in the area. GDOT advises drivers to expect delays, reduce speed and stay alert through the work zone.

“Drivers are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through the work area, stay alert, and watch for workers,” GDOT East.

According to the post, the project is expected to be completed by mid to late summer. The timeline is weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.

GDOT encourages all drivers to use extra caution in construction zones and to watch for posted signs and workers on-site.
