Baldwin County students receive free supplies, haircuts before school starts

The district’s annual Back-to-School Bash also included food, games and informational booths before classes begin August 5.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Baldwin County students received free school supplies, haircuts and other support Thursday ahead of the new school year.

The Baldwin County School District Back-to-School Bash is an annual community event designed to prepare students for the academic year and reduce back-to-school stress for parents.

Superintendent Dr. Kristina Brooks says events like this help prepare students for the new academic year.

“Bringing our community and partners together, it sets a tone that in Baldwin County you are cared for and nurtured, and there are high expectations for you to become the next leader when you become an adult and your giving back to your community,” she said.

The event provided students with free school supplies, haircuts, food, drinks, music, games and community resource booths.

“Our primary goal is to create a welcoming environment, so everyone is excited about what happens on August 5,” she said. “And also, it is a great way to show that we have adults who care and love our children, and we want to send them off on day one with everything they need to be successful.”

Brooks believes these events help bring the community together.

“Not only do we have our children here, our business partners, and organizations, but our parents,” she said. “It absolutely bridges that gap that it takes a village. And that’s actually a key part of our strategic plan; to be successful in Baldwin County we must engage all of our stakeholders, parents, community, business leaders, so that we’re working with one common mission to create the best graduate who can become a productive citizen in Baldwin.”
