Back2School Bash in Warner Robins gives out thousands of backpacks

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The 6th annual Back2School Bash hosted by the Warner Robins Housing Authority was held Friday morning and afternoon in the parking lot of McConnell-Talbert Stadium.

Sharon Rogers, the program coordinator for the housing authority, says the giveaway has gotten bigger and bigger every year, this time handing out over 3,000 backpacks in total to elementary and high school students alike. The backpacks were also filled with various school supplies.

“We started at nine, and we had a huge influx of people that came through,” Rogers said, also mentioning the line at one point stretched nearly the entire length of the stadium’s lot.

Those who were able to get a backpack could’ve also stopped across the street at C.B. Watson Primary School, where free haircuts were being given to anyone who wanted to spruce up their look before the start of the school year.

The giveaway was made possible by donations from area merchants and sponsors.
