Arrest made in March crash that killed 19-year-old in Macon

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.

UPDATE (7/29/2025) An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened earlier this year on Bloomfield Road.

The incident occurred around 3:54 a.m. on March 23, 2025. According to investigators, a vehicle traveling southbound on Bloomfield Road struck a utility pole. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found two young women unresponsive inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Jaleah Freeman, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, 19-year-old Jakayla Holman, died as a result of the crash.

After months of investigation, Freeman turned herself in to authorities on the morning of July 29. She was booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center just after 8 a.m.

Freeman is charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree and aggressive driving. She is currently being held without bond.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A single-car crash early Sunday morning on Bloomfield Road near Rocky Creek Road left a 19-year-old woman dead and a 20-year-old woman critically injured, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene after the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center received a call at 3:54 a.m.

The sheriff’s office says a vehicle traveling south on Bloomfield Road struck a pole. When deputies arrived, they found both the driver and a passenger unresponsive.

Emergency crews took the 20-year-old female driver to a nearby hospital. Medical staff listed her condition as critical but stable, according to the release. Her name has not yet been released, pending notification of her family.

The 19-year-old passenger, identified as Jakayla Holman of Macon, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley, the release said. Her family has been notified.

The crash remains under investigation. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to call (478) 751-7500 and ask to speak with a fatality investigator.
