UPDATE: Arrest made after threat in Telfair County, schools remain closed Tuesday

All Telfair County School District schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 10 due to an ongoing threat investigation.

UPDATE (10:30 p.m.): Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson says the person responsible for making the threatening post has been taken into law enforcement custody.

“Thank you to all the individuals and agencies who worked diligently in identifying this individual to quickly resolve the matter,” he wrote. “Though school has been cancelled for tomorrow 9/10, effective Wednesday 9/11, our office, as well as the MHPD will have additional deputies/officers present in our schools for as long as needed to ensure the continued safety of our children.”

MCRAE-HELENA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – All Telfair County School District schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 10 due to an ongoing threat investigation.

That’s according to a post Monday night on Telfair County High School’s Facebook page.

“The investigation into the threat made earlier today through the social media post is still ongoing,” the post stated. “With the safety of our students and staff in mind, school for all Telfair County students and staff is cancelled for tomorrow, September 10, 2024. Further updates will be made as they become available. Thank you.”

The sheriff’s office first mentioned it had been made aware of a threat Monday just after 6 p.m. The school district’s cancellation announcement came just after 10 p.m.

“This evening, our office was made aware of a TikTok video that was recently posted about threatening a shooting at the high school,” the sheriff’s office post stated. “Rest assured our office is taking this threat seriously, and have partnered with various agencies including McRae-Helena Police Department, the Telfair County BOE Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security to fully investigate the threat. We are currently interviewing potential witnesses in an effort to identify the author of the video.”
