All lanes reopened after seven vehicle car crash on I-16

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – All lanes of I-16 West near Exit 6 in Bibb County are reopened after a seven vehicle car accident blocked traffic, according to Georgia 511.

The Bibb Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened near the exit for Ocmulgee East Boulevard near a construction zone around 11:00 a.m. Lt. Randy Gonzalez tells 41NBC traffic was at a stand still due to the construction. A tractor trailer tried to stop, but couldn’t and crashed into multiple vehicles.

“The truck actually split the lanes of traffic in the westbound lanes, hitting multiple cars,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez says four people were sent to a local hospital for treatment with minor injuries.

All lanes of traffic reopened about two hours after the accident happened.
