MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  Academy for Classical Education (ACE) co-founder and principal Laura Perkins, who previously served as principal at Bibb County’s Westside High School, wrote in an email to parents on Thursday that she will retire at the end of June.

“In the immortal words of Shakespeare’s Juliet, (you know I love good quotes!) “…parting is such sweet sorrow…” I have notified our wonderful Governing Board and our amazing ACE Faculty and Staff that I will be retiring at the end of June 2024,” she wrote. “I wanted you to hear this from me as well although I have heard murmurs that the information has leaked out! These last ten years have been some of the most professionally amazing years of my life. Your children are truly the hope for the future! As parents you love and support them in so many ways and by virtue of that, you have supported ACE with equal care. I am indebted to you for that.”

“Together, we have built something very special for the Macon-Bibb Community and I know that the success of ACE will only grow as the years pass thanks to your support,” she wrote.

Perkins founded ACE, a K-12 public charter school, alongside another former Bibb County Schools employee, Esterine Stokes. Stokes currently serves as ACE’s Chief Academic Officer, according to acemacon.org.

The school, located at 5665 New Forsyth Road, opened in August 2014.
