Proposed plan could block your favorite websites
(NBC News) – The Federal Communications Commission could approve a plan next month that would allow internet service providers to block or slow down access to content online.
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s plan would lift the net neutrality regulations that stop companies from slowing web traffic and create so-called paid internet fast lanes.
The proposed plan would also get rid of the FCC’s authority to monitor and stop behavior by internet service providers it deems unreasonable.
Instead, the FCC would determine whether internet service providers are acting in an anti-competitive manner.
People against the plan say the Obama-era regulations allowed the internet to remain a level playing field.
However, Chairman Pai argues that the old rules are burdensome and prevent investment in broadband networks.
The proposed rules could pass at the next meeting set for December 14th.
