Bibb deputies make break in Jayvon Sherman Case and others

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – We’ve got an update on several recent shootings that have occurred in Macon over the last few weeks–including one involved a 16 year-old teen shot on is way to school.

For Macon-Bibb County the month of October was riddled with gun shots, homicides and questions.

“This past week has not been a very good week and the month of October has not been a very good month for us,” said Sheriff David Davis

But investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office now have some answers to those questions.

“We do have the happy occasion to announce that we have made an arrest in the case of Jayvon Sherman,” Davis announced at a news conference on Thursday.

Sheriff Davis says investigators have identified Wesley Jamison Holt as the shooter who ended Jayvon’s life. Holt was taken into custody on Halloween and charged on Wednesday.

“Mr. Holt is not unknown to us in law enforcement. He was released back in July for some burglary charges that he’d had previously,” Davis explained.

Investigators are now following leads in the case of Jontavious Towns–the person whose body was discovered on Halloween.

“We will be sending out information of a car that we’ll be looking at that we have of interest in that case.”

This in addition to the two other shootings that occurred on Dennis and Burton Street later that night.

“We’re hoping that they recover and are able to give more information about what happened. In their cases sometimes, we have situations where people are involved in these incidents and they themselves may have been shot, but they’re sometimes unable or unwilling to come forward and give us more information about who they’re assailant may have been,” Sheriff Davis said.

That’s why Macon Regional Crimestoppers wants to keep the momentum going.

“The basis of our program is someone outside of the criminal knows about the crime and that’s where we’re asking for the communities help,” said Crime Stoppers Chairman Warren Selby.

On Thursday, they announced their decision to up the ante on cash rewards for crime tips.

“You’ve heard our tagline that we pay up to $1,000 dollars for homicides, which is the most severe case that you can have in a community. Well, we’re here to announce that we’re doubling that amount. So, we’re going to pay up to $2,000 for any homicide in the eight county area that we cover,” Selby said.

Investigators are still looking at the timeline of events in the Towns case and are unsure of a motive. They’re hoping once the autopsy is completed, they’ll be able to further determine what happened.
