Middle Georgia has plenty of Halloween Fun for your family
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WGMT) – You can get a history lesson at the Riverside Cemetery that your kids probably won’t learn in the classroom.
Susan Gordon, President of Riverside Cemetery, said the annual Spirits in October event has actors take visitors on a journey of 9 different people’s lives who are buried in the cemetery.
“They tell the stories or the interesting stories of their life. Whether it was a career path, maybe it was something tragic that happened in their life, or in their family. It could be they held a position in the city,” Gordon said.
Volunteers spend time researching people in the cemetery with interesting stories to showcase in the annual event.
Gordon said the event is great for kids.
“It’s interesting for them because, one they’re outside, you know and they can walk play and run, and the other part is that it teaches them something about Macon that they didn’t know,” she said.
Now if you’re kids are more interested in a thrilling event, Jenny Maas, Director of Operations at the Museum of Aviation Foundation, said the Nevermore Hills Haunted Trail is right up their alley.
“You can expect to be startled, you can expect to be surprised, and you can expect to see some really neat stuff,” Maas said.
The Haunted Trail features a haunted house and a maze you can only crawl through.
And once your kids get a good scare, you can take them to the drive-in movie at the Tubman Museum for the showing of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.
Harold Young, Special Events Manager at the museum, said this is something your entire family will enjoy.
“Drive-ins don’t exist in Middle Georgia anymore. This definitely gives young people an opportunity to experience the drive-in experience,” he said.
